Our real estate is responsible of nearly half the energy we consume and a third of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, if we are to tackle the future environmental risks, we must act today to improve the energy efficiency of our buildings. To that end, SpectrumLab developed and is licensing the world’s first thermochromic coating applicable to outdoor surfaces such as roofs and façades. Such coatings turn white beyond a certain temperature, thus reflecting sunlight in summer and cooling the building, and turn black below said temperature, thus absorbing sunlight and warming the building. This can save on average 15% energy in space heating and cooling every year!
